Colorado Student Assessment Programs

The Office of Learning and Results analyzes the student performance results of the three state assessments (CSAP, CO ACT, CO NAEP). Additionally, this unit reviews the Colorado Model Content Standards and the current research in both content and pedagogy most effective in helping students and teachers achieve better classroom results. Public conversations and information sessions are conducted with schools, higher education, school boards, policy makers and the media.

The Colorado Student Assessment Program test given to Colorado school children each year will be reviewed, to help school districts improve student performance and narrow achievement gaps.

The review will look at the state standards, put in place in 1994, and determine what students at each grade level should know in each subject. The review will also include a look at the tests themselves.

Colorado Department of Education Commissioner says he expects there will be changes in both standards and testing. Other parts of the plan to help districts improve performance include recognition for schools that undertake successful, systemic school reform; and a retreat for school leaders to share innovative ideas.

Another part of the plan would award scholarships to 100 top high school seniors who enroll in state colleges and universities, and agree to teach in certain positions that are difficult to fill when they graduate. Courtesy of CDE
